How long has your company been producing events? What is your main focus?

Vermilion Events was launched in 2014 – born from the desire to take special events to the next level. Working in events for other people for over 24 years, I wanted to take all of that experience and start to create events that stood out from the rest.

Our focus is to take your event, whether it be a meeting, conference, fundraiser, or gala and create it from both sides. Both sides meaning design and logistics. With my diverse experience, I can look at your event not only from a logistical point of view but from an award-winning design aspect.

What do you enjoy most about your role in corporate event planning?

I thoroughly enjoy taking corporate events and dissecting them into smaller parts, allowing the client to be able to see all of the parts individually. With this I get to add the “vermilion touch” throughout the entire event, surprising the client with design, production and logistical items they weren’t expecting and creating an overall event that truly wow’s.

How do you keep up with the constant change in the industry?

Reading… it sounds old fashion, but it works. Reading publications, postings, stories, history, updates, blogs and more. With this, I can pull from a plethora of information when needed.

I follow people from not only our industry but fashion, design, production, architecture, electronics and more. Inspiration can come from anywhere.

Do you have any advice for a company having a hard time choosing a theme? Is a theme necessary?

This is such a popular question. I take a step back and look at what the overall goal is for the event. Is there a message the company is looking to express, a motto? What is the company looking towards in the future… sales, marketing? With this, we can fabricate a custom theme to go along with the meeting.

Do we have to have a theme… no not at all. Some feel it is necessary, to fall back on to the standards – “Speak Easy”, “decades” (70s, 80s), Luau… but it’s not.

If you have exasperated themes, or perhaps it’s just not comfortable for people to dress in “theme”, you can do just a color theme… red party or maybe a Black and White Ball… classic and easy to create with decor and lighting.

What is your favorite city for events and why?

I’ll bypass my home city as that is too easy. Though Phoenix and Scottsdale are obvious choices for amazing weather, activities, and a variety of options.

So for my very close second place I love doing events in Palm Springs. This small desert oasis is a thrill to work in. The king of mid-century modern design, Palm Springs has so much to offer. Style of course, large and small properties, a food scene bursting in flavors, and a history rich with classic Hollywood, southwestern chicness, and that Coachella valley hipster vibe you can’t get enough of.
